Enabel is the Belgian development agency. It implements Belgium’s governmental cooperation. The agency also works for other national and international donors. With its partners in Belgium and abroad, Enabel offers solutions to address pressing global challenges: Climate Change, Urbanisation, Human Mobility, Peace and Security, Economic and Social Inequality as well as promotes Global Citizenship. With over 2,000 staff, Enabel manages about 170 projects in twenty countries, in Belgium, Africa and the Middle East.

Background

Enabel in Uganda is looking for passionate, dynamic individuals to fill 2 vacancies for Communications Officer.
The Communication Officer (s) will lead the implementation of project communication plans with focus on communication about results and knowledge management.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. You coordinate communication and visibility activities
2. You systematically compile best practices and lessons learned of the Country Portfolio for dissemination purposes using visual aids
3. You collect, edit and publish of human-interest stories for Enabel and the donor
4. You ensure that systematic learning and knowledge sharing are fully embedded in project management and implementation.

Required Qualifications and Experience
1. A Master’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Public relations or other related fields
2. At least 5 years of proven, relevant experience in communication and journalism
3. Experience working for civil society, bilateral or a multilateral agency is an added advantage.

Required Knowledge and Skills
1. Excellent written and spoken English;
2. Able to express ideas and opinions clearly in a structured manner that appeals to the reader/listener.
3. Multi-media knowledge and skills (content management systems for website, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) & audio-visual media.
4. Ability to effectively use print media design softwares such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
5. Proven photography and video production skills
6. Proactive and creative: Able to recognize opportunities and act on them; selfstarter, coming up with original solutions for job-related problems, devising new methods of work and solution oriented.
7. Strong analytical skills: identifying problems; recognizing significant information; making connections between data; tracing possible causes of problems.
8. Soft skills such as ability to work in a team and autonomously.
9. Willingness to undertake regular field missions.
10. Willingness to work and stay within the project area, as the work demand (Either Jinja or Kampala).
11. Agile, flexible and cooperative.
