About US:

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.

Duties and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

  • Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved
  • Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
  • Immediately report accidents, breakdowns and needs of repair and general maintenance /service
  • Respect the local traffic regulations and the NRC logistical/vehicle policies at all times
  • Maintain the logbook for all trips
  • Maintain the vehicle in proper operating condition at all times, including keeping the vehicle clean, ensuring enough fuel, checking the technical state etc
  • In liaison with the line manager, arrange for repairs and servicing
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle has all the necessary documents and equipment
  • Provide logistical support during trainings and workshops

Specific responsibilities

  • Mapping out movement routes in  the camp and within the  operations area
  • Maintain neatness of the vehicle interior and exterior
  • Reporting any accidental  incidences with an incidence report to the line manager
Qualifications
  • Minimum of Senior four (O-Level qualification) is required
  • Valid driving permit –  DM class
  • Minimum of 3 years experiences as a driver in an INGO / large organization
  • Training in defensive driving will be an advantage
  • Very good command of English
  • Knowledge of Kishwali and Runyakitara

We can offer
  • Job Grade:                  2,  as per NRC Uganda Scale
  • Contract Duration:   12 months renewable subject to funding
  • Duty station:              Kyangwali
  • Travel:                        90%
