Job Description

Egg Production Uganda Ltd (EPL) is a start-up business in the commercial egg production sector based in Kiteete village, Mityana district, Central Uganda.

Starting with a flock of 15,000 layers EPL plans to run a business that is socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. Egg production Uganda ltd is therefore looking for a self-motivated and experienced individual who would like to make a difference to fill the role of a Driver/Sales person (1) and provide support at the farm.

The successful candidate will be expected to spend working days at the farm and be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project motor vehicle and ensuring the safety and security of authorized passengers, cargo, equipment and eggs on board as well as carry out sales of the eggs.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

Driver roles;

  • Drive truck or other vehicle over established routes or within an established territory and sell goods (eggs) and remove aged merchandise.
  • Maintain the assigned motor vehicle and its accessories in a good working condition.
  • Convey program equipment, materials staff, visitors and any other authorized personnel on official duty in a safe and secure manner.
  • Run errands to collect and deliver mail, parcels, etc. as may be assigned.
  • Monitor the vehicle fuel gauge constantly and reports any need for re-fuelling in good time.
  • Make a daily record of trips in the vehicle log book, particularly departure/arrival times and mileage readings, as well as vehicle repairs/service and fuel and lubricants consumption, and reports the due service mileage in good time.
  • Verify repair/service done by a mechanic on return of vehicle from the garage.
  • Ensure the safety of the vehicle while on trips.
  • Assist in loading/off-loading of the project materials onto/from the assigned vehicle
  • Complies strictly with the official Highway Code and traffic rules and regulation while driving as well as the relevant EPL policies and procedures.
  • Promptly reports to the office and/or the police all accidents and problems encountered while on duty.
  • Ensure all vehicle doors and windows are securely locked after working hours, prior to handing over the keys.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the General Manager

Sales roles;

  • May also take orders and collect payments/ money from customers and record transactions on customer receipts.
  • Listen to and forward customers’ complaints regarding products or services to management for resolving.
  • Inform regular customers of new products or services and price changes.
  • Write and take customer orders and sales contracts according to company guidelines.
  • Call on prospective customers in order to explain company services and to solicit new business.
  • Record sales or delivery information on daily sales or delivery record.

The ideal candidate must have experience in operating and maintaining of the company motor vehicle as wells as sales. Candidates with experience in sales and motor vehicle driving for a layer farm will have an added advantage.

Competence & Experience

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must hold a Valid Ugandan Driving License.
  • Flexibility to work a non-traditional work schedule based on seasonal and situation demands including extended hours and workweek.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision, proactive and organized.
  • Able to handle pressure and remain focused.
  • High degree of discretion dealing with confidential information and trustworthy.
  • At least a Uganda Certificate of Education with 3+ years’ experience in sales and motor vehicle operations.
