Job Role
Role Overview: The Technical Advisor for GBV Prevention Network will provide strategic and inspiring leadership to
the Network team and its members while ensuring quality implementation of the Network’s strategy to increase momentum for violence against women prevention by strengthening analysis, building connections and taking action to prevent VAW in the Horn, East and Southern Africa.

Key Result Areas Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic support

  • Provide leadership and guidance on all aspects of the GBV Prevention Network strategy to ensure achievement of the goals and objectives.
  • Oversee and guide the various feminist informed initiatives of the Network through planning, implementation and monitoring which includes leading on several areas of work.
  • Provide technical assistance for Network members on critical VAW prevention issues.

Feminist Processes and Activism

  • Lead and support the production of various creative and vibrant materials for use in feminist initiatives such as 16 Days of Activism, social media campaigns, etc.
  • Develop feminist content for and facilitate virtual and in-person engagements such as Get Moving!, Rethink and Reenergize (R&R) processes and advocacy initiatives.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to members to facilitate process within their organizations or other activists in their communities.

Planning, assessing and reporting

  • Coordinate the preparation of annual, quarterly workplans and specific activities plans for the Network team, and monitor and assess quality of activities, and revise plans if required.
  • Ensure the team track progress of the work and record in the organizational learning framework, engage in R&A discussions to generate learnings.
  • Ensure timely reports for activity, quarterly and annual are prepared for the Network using the organizational reporting template.
  • Identify learning agenda for the area and support learning initiatives such as e.g. Peer Learning Initiatives (PLIs); and integrated learning into practice/initiatives.
  • Lead and support the writing of program tools, programme briefs, and publications elevating
    learning from practice.
  • Lead in the preparation of annual budget for Network to enable implementation of annual work plans.

Resource management

  • Prepare/review detailed budget prior to the implementation of each activity and request/ endorse the required funds.
  • Review monthly financial reports and provide feedback.
  • Ensure financial and other resources are utilized efficiently and effectively.

Support to the team

  • Supervise, mentor and support the VAW Prevention Practice team including staff, interns and consultants.
  • Conduct regular check in meetings with the team to track progress, discuss challenges and
    identify possible solutions.
  • Support the team to prepare individual operating plans and conduct performance review annually with the VAW Prevention Coordinator.

Training and capacity development

  • Ensure there is ongoing learning and documentation of successes and challenges to enhance the sustainability of Network initiatives.
  • Supervise, mentor and support the GBV Prevention Network team including staff, interns and consultants.
  • Manage the GBV Prevention Network budget and support resource mobilization ensuring that all Raising Voices funds are used ethically and efficiently.

Management and nurturing of diverse partnerships

  •  Build and maintain productive relationships with members of the Network and other partners.
  • Support formalization of partnerships through MOUs and contract development, management and reporting
  • Represent Raising Voices in national, regional and global forums and events.
  • Maintain a constructive and respectful relationships with all staff, members, partners and stakeholders; demonstrating values by example

Relationship building and partnership management

  • Build and maintain mutually productive relationships with partners and other likeminded organizations.
  •  Represent Raising Voices in national, regional and global forums and events.
  • Hold regular reflection with partners to enable strategic evolvement of partnership
  • Work in a feminist, collaborative and accountable way with all members of the VAW prevention team and Raising Voices more generally.

Organizational engagement

  • Work in close collaboration with the VAW Prevention Coordinator.
  •  Supervise, mentor and support any VAW Prevention Influencing staff, interns and consultants.
  •  Participate and co-facilitate in VAW prevention team and Raising Voices meetings, staff retreats, reviews, strategies and processes.
  • Support in preparation and facilitation of team and staff development sessions. Understand other areas of Raising Voices work and explore ways to build synergies

  • Any other related duties assigned

Person Specification

Education

  • Minimum – BA Degree in development, social work, gender, human rights fields or related area
  • MA is a plus

Essential Experience 

  • At least 5 years of NGO experience in a senior position in Africa.
  • In-depth knowledge of VAW prevention, feminism and movement building.
  • Track record for publishing (policy briefs, thought pieces, blogs, reports, etc)
  • Ability to develop and facilitate creative feminist processes.
